Brand new facial recognition boarding experience with Korean Air

Face recognition as boarding pass for passengers is no longer a dream but coming true for fan of travel. Recently, Korean Air has introduced to the public their facial recognition plane boarding in Atlanta of the United Nations. As what the brand promises, from 1st of November, 2019, passengers on flight KE036 in Atlanta will get a chance to experience the latest facial recognition technology: boarding after a facial recognition scan instead of traditionally scanning their boarding pass.
The brand new facial recognition airline boarding experience is thanks to the gradual development of technology: the technology taking a photo of the passenger’s face and checking whether their photos match with the passenger’s passport and other boarding pass information.
Applying facial recognition airline boarding, Korean Air aims at facilitating the efficiency of identification checks while tightening up security. Not only so, the invention of this amazing facial recognition technology also saves time for both passengers and the airport staffs in general, besides the fact that it will decrease the task intensity to the airport staffs.
By using face recognition as boarding pass for passengers Korean Air is telling that it can actively respond to the fourth industrial revolution that is spreading far and wide. More than that, the air brand also introduces biometric information-based artificial intelligence technology, a core technology of “One ID”.
At the moment, facial recognition technology is used by Korean Air in Singapore and Los Angeles. The brand has a plan of applying this technology in Atlanta from November, following technological cooperation with its joint venture partner Delta Air Lines. In the future, the brand will bring facial recognition boarding pass experience to New York in December, marking the emerging of the onboarding technology trends all around the world. The plan of installation the facial recognition airport check-in is also prepared in line with the Incheon International Airport Corporation’s Smart Airport Plan.
The new facial recognition boarding pass introduced by Korean Air has great importance in the air industry of not only South Korea but also the international air transport industry.
