According to the latest housing survey, Croatia stands out as the country with the highest rate of home ownership in Eastern Europe. An astounding 90% of the population owns a real property, demonstrating the significant preference for private ownership among the residents. This figure surpasses other Central and Eastern European countries, where a considerable majority of individuals also reside in properties they own.

Croats Have the Highest Rate of Owning a Home in Eastern Europe

Digging deeper into the statistics, Croatia not only boasts a high percentage of people owning their personal residence but also showcases a remarkable 80% of the population who have fully paid off their properties without any mortgage burden. Only 10% of the population finds themselves renting, highlighting the rarity of this scenario in comparison to other regions.

These figures not only surpass the average in the European Union but also illuminate Croatia's unique housing landscape. In the EU, just over 40% of the population owns their own property, with approximately 25% paying a mortgage and the rest opting for rental housing. Therefore, the high rate of home ownership in Croatia truly sets it apart from its European counterparts.

As we delve further into the survey, another intriguing aspect emerges—the average age of buildings in Croatia. Approximately 60% of the country's structures were built before 1990, reflecting a historical richness ingrained in the architecture. Another 30% were constructed between 1990 and 2009, while the remaining 10% were built after 2010, showcasing a blend of traditional and contemporary designs.

While Croatia boasts an impressive rate of home ownership, it is worth noting that Western European countries such as Austria and Germany have an even higher percentage of "older" homes, with almost 80% of their buildings constructed before the 1990s. However, Croatia's unique blend of architectural styles and the country's rich history bring forth a distinct allure that cannot be overshadowed by sheer statistical comparison.

The high rate of home ownership in Croatia not only signifies a strong sense of stability but also reflects the deep-rooted connection Croatians have with their properties and the importance they place on owning a home. It is a testament to the country's economic development and the perseverance of its citizens.

Croatia stands proud as the Eastern European leader in home ownership, with an extraordinary 90% of its population owning real estate. This surpasses the average in the European Union and solidifies the country's position as a place where owning a home is not just a dream but a reality for the vast majority. The blend of historical architecture and contemporary designs further enhances the appeal of Croatia's housing landscape, making it a sought-after destination for individuals seeking both comfort and a piece of history.
