According to some reports, skincare and cosmetics ranges are the main focus of Hermès for its debut in 2020.

The luxurious brand is developing its beauty collections mainly in France and Italy with cautiousness. Hermès chief executive Axel Dumas realized that cosmetics industry was a big market with strong players such as Kering and Gucci, so they had to find their place in it. According to Dumas, there are three axes including makeup, skincare and fragrance that Hermès needs to develop in order to become a great global beauty brand.

Luxury analyst Mario Ortelli reported that beauty was such a great product category that it allowed you to attract more new clients to increase a larger and more profitable business for the company. That is the reason why many rivals of Hermès also thrive so hard to improve their beauty businesses. For example, Yves Saint Laurent licensed with L’Oreal to generate sales of more than €1 billion each year.

Witnessing fragrance made up 5 percent of Hermès overall sales last year, many luxury brands also invest a lot in this sector. Gucci corporated with Coty to gain less than €400 million, Kering signed contract with Coty to boost sales in the future.

To sum up, the big ambitions of Hermès are understandable in a world of so many strong competitors like nowadays. If the brand tries hard enough, it may dominate the cosmetics industry in such a short time.
