Seoul Fashion Week helps Korean designers get to new heights

Being one of the top five fashion capitals, Seoul is where the top fashion brands in the world are headed. Recently, Hera Fashion Week was held very successfully. This not only gives Korean fashion designers a unique opportunity but also gives us a better understanding of fashion indutry in this country.

Korea - a potential fashion market

Like other global fashion capitals such as New York, London, Paris or Milan, there are several young talented fashion designers in Seoul. And, some of them have great potential to shine in the global fashion industry. However, for a variety of reasons, these pearls have not been discovered, and thus have not made a name for themselves in the context of global fashion.

Some fashion projects are opened to search, select and polish these ‘pearls’. This helps them to shine brightly and to bring Korean fashion to the world. When talented designers are chosen, their names will be globally famous. As such, they can build an international buyer network as well as contacts with fashion editors.

The menswear brand - Blindness was a semi-finalist of the LVMH PRIZE and Pushbutton are two of the “Soul” fashion labels that Seoul Fashion week (SFW) chose last year. Blindness and Pushbutton made their international runway debuts at London Fashion Week earlier this year thanks to SFW’s support.

Korean fashion has gained more attention in the world than ever before thanks to the fact that SFW has started to be known by some global fashion experts. One of the unnamed foreign experts said that SFW is an indispensable program in Asia.

In fact, the path that SFW has undergone is not smooth. It has been called a local festival because it attracts very few international buyers. For decades, Korean designers have been trying to expand their fashion business abroad. And finally, they succeeded.
