There is a strong demand throughout the mens fashion industry

This week, Nike launched a new collection of yoga clothes for men. Although this is the first time the company has delved into male yoga costumes, this step is very suitable for competitors who are promoting the recent menswear trend.

There is a strong demand throughout the mens fashion industry

Lululemon, the company that has the product of mainly female yoga pants for a long while, is one of its competitors. Former CEO Laurent Potdevin described male clothing as one of the brands most kept secrets. The company is currently seeking to develop this division into a multi-billion dollar business.

Gap also jumped on men’s fashion industry last year, with the brand new casual mens fashion Hill City. But a push into mens clothing beyond the sportswear market - Madewell launched mens clothing in September. Saks Fifth Avenue recently closed its womens fashion store at Brookfield Place but still open for mens clothing. Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen released their own mens collection of The Row fashion brand last year, and the list still continues.

These brands are all looking to take advantage of a big change in fashion, and that is in the not too distant future, male attire can outstrip women. Business intelligence firm Gartner L2 estimates that in just two years, the revenue growth of mens clothing will outperform womens clothing. This data was supported by Euromonitor International, estimating that the male lines will outperform women ones in the next six years.

"Fashion has always been about women but men are finally having their time. It’s the younger men that are driving the push for menswear. These men are more savvy and aware, and there is a lot of competition to look the part," says Lizzy Bowring, catwalk director at trend-forecasting agency WSGN.

“One key trend is men’s changing perception of fashion. Men are spending more time, effort and money on their grooming and appearance,” Ayako Homma, beauty and fashion consultant at Euromonitor International wrote.
